Dr G. Bhanuprakash Reddy gets Basant Devi Amir Chand prize

Dr G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, a scientist at National Institute of Nutrition, a wing of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) was awarded the prestigious Basant Devi Amir Chand prize. 

Having his PhD in Biochemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad and Post doctorate in field of Molecular Biophysics at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Pathology from Case Western Reserve University, USA, Dr Bhanuprakash Reddy has been working on the ocular complications of diabetes and obesity such as cataract and retinal dystrophies, the most common causes of blindness. Major thrust of his research is to understand the molecular basis of complications of diabetes and obesity that includes evaluation of nutritional status, effect of functional foods, identification of susceptible factors (genetic, nutritional and other environmental factors) and biomarkers, and developing suitable animal models. His research is also aimed at molecular aspects of influence of nutrition transition on emerging life-style disorders with an ultimate goal to develop preventive and therapeutic strategies by nutritional, dietary and pharmaceutical means for age-related and lifestyle disorders.

He has many awards, fellowships and prizes to his credit namely Scopus India Young Scientist Award (Medicine), Research to Prevent Blindness (USA)-International Research Scholars Award, Department of Biotechnology (DBT)- Associateship for Young Scientists in Niche Areas of Biotechnology, Prof B. K. Bachhawat International Travel Grant for Young Scientist, ICMR Award for Excellent Research Output, ICMR International Fellow, ICMR Dr V. N. Patwardhan Prize, Young Scientist Project from Department of Science and Technology, and Young Scientist Award from Nutrition Society of India, Hyderabad.
