To curb adulteration and ensure purity of honey being manufactured

Aware of the use of adulterants in the manufacture of honey, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a directive to curb adulteration and ensure purity of honey being manufactured.

The directive was sent to the Commissioner of Food Safety of all States and Union Territories, and all Central Licensing Authorities.

There are adulterants such as Golden Syrup, Invert Sugar Syrup and Rice Syrup that are being added to honey which is a violation of standards prescribed under sub regulation 2.8.3 of Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations, (FSS) 2011.
